To celebrate Shine's first birthday on School Road, Joe Rafiq and I created a pin badge!
We used the newspaper clipping as a starting point and Joe researched which breeds of dog would have been around in 1917. In the end we went with this smiley lurcher on a wooden pin, we felt that it fitted the description but was something that would appeal to people in 2026 and beyond. We liked the eco credentials of printing on wood and we added a brief version of the story to the back of the card.

We didn't stop there! We thought the dog deserved to have some fun so we also created some birthday cards. You can buy those here.
We are also holding two competitions based on Mrs Broomfield's brooch, we have a colouring in competition and a chance for you to design your own version of Mrs Broomfield's brooch. Competition sheets are available on the links above. We welcome entries from all ages and abilities!! We'll display them in the shop and on our social media.
